Advantages of Liquid Rubber Compared to Solid Rubber

Liquid rubber is a viscous liquid with a relative molecular weight between 2000 and 10000 at room temperature. Through appropriate chemical reactions, it can form a three-dimensional network structure, thus obtaining oligomers with physical and mechanical properties similar to ordinary vulcanized rubber.

The characteristics of transparent liquid rubber are :

  • The molecular weight should be appropriately small to maintain a flow state ;

  • It should be able to produce cross-linking, and the physical and mechanical properties of the cross-linked material should reach the level of ordinary vulcanized rubber.

One of the most common uses of liquid rubber is to produce rubber molds. Rubber is a popular material for making molds because it is non-sticky when molding and is easy to remove from the mold after material setting. Liquid rubber can also be sprayed or brushed onto an object to produce a casting, and the resulting castings can be used to make various molds.

Transparent liquid rubber is easy to process and has the advantage of low energy consumption

To turn solid rubber into a product, it must undergo multiple processes of compounding with various auxiliaries, shaping, and vulcanization, which requires a lot of energy. However, transparent liquid rubber can be made into a product by simply mixing various auxiliaries and performing cross-linking reaction through heating. The liquid rubber and auxiliary can still be in a liquid state after mixing, making it very convenient in processing small parts. Liquid rubber manufacturers and processing companies take full advantage of this feature and have extensively used liquid rubber in multiple fields over the years of continuous development and research.

Compared with solid rubber, transparent liquid rubber has the following advantages

  • Liquid rubber is a cast elastomer, and its processing technology is easy to realize mechanization, continous and automation, reducing labor intensity and improving working environment.

  • Investment in processing equipment and model is reduced.

  • Auxiliary fees are saved (energy-saving and resource-saving).

  •  Processing can be carried out in a liquid state without solvents, water, and other dispersants (no solvents and no pollution).

  • By means of main chain extension and cross-linking methods, the physical properties and vulcanization speed can be adjusted widely.

Transparent liquid rubber can also be used as an adhesive and can achieve a sealing effect when properly applied. It is also used to produce coatings for different materials, with a sealing effect and wind and rain protection. In addition, liquid rubber is also used in the production of some medical instruments and transplants. In the medical field, medical-grade silicone rubber can be used to produce durable, non-electrically conductive products that can be safely used in hospitals and operating rooms. In addition, silicone rubber can also be used to make dental molds, produce flexible medical transplants, and develop special medical equipment.
